Actor, singer & writer
-"Being a nomad by choice from an early age is a privilege that I'm grateful for. The sense of the wildly different places I've lived in inspires me every day."
Sandra Andreis' acting credits span from various theatre stages in New York City to Scandinavian noir and international film & TV productions. Her Swedish-Italian-Japanese ancestry informed an eclectic childhood and inspired her to venture out in the world from an early age. Over the years, she has come to live and work in Sweden, Denmark, France, Austria, The Dominican Republic, Los Angeles and New York.
As an actor, Sandra is renowned as Detective Mia Holmgren in The Sandhamn Murders, a Swedish TV crime show which has been followed by millions of viewers across Europe. Andreis has also appeared in David Fincher's adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and the movie Reunion, which was awarded the FIPRESCI Prize at The Venice Film Festival and several Guldbagge Awards in Sweden.
Music, however, has always played a parallel role to Sandra's acting career and as a jazz singer, she has been singing with a variety of Swedish musicians, as well as performing solo on various stages in Stockholm. In September 2019, Sandra released her debut EP Raising My Standards; a unique collection of jazz classics transformed into triphop-infused fighting songs for gender equality. The debut included groundbreaking lyrical rewrites. Sandra explains in her own words;
- “The whole EP is my personal showdown against the repressive gender norms in much of music, especially the jazz of my childhood. Good music needs to be updated, just as children’s books and laws do – first to not hold us back, but also to enable these classics to stand the test of time.”
The EP and Sandra's message of empowerment further launched a worldwide collaboration with the international fashion brand & Other Stories. The campaign was named Lady is a Champ; a direct result of Sandra's initiative to change the title of Frank Sinatra's classic hit song The Lady is a Tramp. For the first time in history, the title got approved and registered as the official alternative title to the original.
Besides being a passionate advocate of equality and inclusion, Sandra is a speaker of multiple languages and has also recently started to write and produce films on themes she wishes to explore and see more of. During 2020, Sandra will be releasing a new album of original songs, two short films, and can be seen in four different TV-series. She currently divides her time between Stockholm and California.
-"I feel fortunate that my work makes it possible to live and work in different countries and cultures. It helps me to keep perspective, not to mention the bonus of discovering new condiments along the way. I love condiments. The spices and condiments people use and have in their fridge say a lot about who they are and where they come from."
